Soria hits Fresno City College to film campaign kickoff video

Fresno City Councilwoman Esmeralda Soria’s shadow challenge to Rep. Jim Costa (D-Fresno) intensified on Wednesday with a video shoot.

The shadow campaign for Esmeralda Soria continues to roll on.

Wednesday morning, Soria – flanked by a cameraman and a small handful of college students – filmed a video at Fresno City College that Democratic sources say will serve as a video rollout for a challenge to longtime Rep. Jim Costa (D-Fresno). [mnky_ads id=”8872″]

Soria has consistently demurred about a Congressional bid, including as recent as last week when she told KSEE 24’s Alexan Balekian on “Sunday Morning Matters” she was focused on her current work on the City Council along with a return to teaching.

However, behind-the-scenes moves starting in June suggest she’s likely to run.

City Hall sources told The Sun ahead of her June trip to the Capital that she was scheduled to meet with pro-choice, female candidate recruitment powerhouse EMILY’s List along with new-comer group, IGNITE.

On KSEE’s flagship show, Soria denied the meetings.

“When I was in Washington, D.C., I did not make any meetings that were political,” Soria said to Balekian. “And I am telling the truth.”

Last week, a Los Angeles-based consultant linked to Soria acquired the domain SoriaForCongress.com. Thus far, no website has been built.
