Madera Community Hospital has received funding from the state that will ensure its doors remain open.
Sen. Anna Caballero (D – Merced) and Asm. Frank Bigelow jointly announced Wednesday that they secured $5 million from the state to support the hospital.
Madera Community Hospital suffered financial hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic to the point where shutting down was on the horizon.
But the $5 million will keep the hospital afloat until its expected merger with Trinity Health Corporation, the parent company of St. Agnes Medical Center in Fresno.
“Madera Community Hospital provides critical medical care to a rural region in my district,” Caballero said in a statement. “Without its services, residents would have few or no healthcare options. I am pleased that Assemblyman Bigelow and I were able to secure the funding necessary to allow uninterrupted care to continue.”
Bigelow stated, “These dollars are critical to ensuring folks continue to have a hospital in our community. I’m grateful we were able to work together to provide support in a time of need.”
More than 80 percent of Madera Community Hospital’s revenue comes from programs like Medi-Cal and Medicare, and the hospital provides care for around 100,000 people in the region.
