Mathys denied “MAGA Conservative” ballot designation

Friday’s court hearing did not go in favor of the former Fresno City Councilman.

Congressional candidate Chris Mathys will not have his desired ballot designation in the March primary.

The big picture: Mathys, a former Fresno City Councilman and candidate for Congressional District 22, sued Secretary of State Shirley Weber for denying his “MAGA Conservative” ballot designation.

  • On Friday, Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Shelleyanne Chang ruled against Mathys.
  • Chang ruled that Mathys could not use “MAGA Conservative” or “MAGA Conservative Republican.”
  • Last year Mathys requested that his ballot designation be “Trump Conservative.” That was also denied by the state, and his designation ended up being “businessman/rancher.”
