Ellis takes commanding lead, likely win Fong’s Calif. Assembly outright

Based on early vote results, the Bakersfield businessman is on-track to win a seat in the California State Assembly outright on Tuesday night.

Barring a sudden, massive swing in late voting Bakersfield businessman Stan Ellis (R–Bakersfield) will become the next member of California State Assembly, replacing now-Congressman Vince Fong (R–Bakersfield) by securing an outright victory in Tuesday’s special primary election.

Ellis opened a hefty lead over a four-person field, commanding 63.5% of the vote in early voting results in Kern and Tulare counties.

What they’re saying: Fong issued a statement congratulating Ellis on the victory.

  • “Congratulations to my friend Stan Ellis for his election victory tonight,” Fong said in his statement. “He will be a tremendous advocate for our community in Sacramento. I look forward to working with Assemblyman-elect Ellis on the critical needs of the Central Valley so our region can continue to grow and thrive.”
