“Vax for the Win?” Worries grow of Newsom using giveaways to defeat recall

Gov. Gavin Newsom made an appearance on James Corden’s Late Late Show on Tuesday night to tout – and explain – California’s confusing reopening from its color-coded blueprint.

Concerns that Gov. Gavin Newsom is leveraging every element of the state’s reopening to blunt momentum for the 2021 recall this fall grew stronger on Tuesday when he made comments related to the state’s “Vax for the Win” contest.

“This same ‘invest in himself’ attitude is costing taxpayers billions and leaving everyday Californians in the dust,” California Senate GOP leader Scott Wilk (R–Santa Clarita) tweeted out.

Meanwhile, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer – a top Newsom adversary – referred to the Governor’s weeklong tour as part of the “recall circus,” calling the chief executive a “carnival barker.”
