Bonakdar leads District 6 while Dyer, Karbassi secure second terms

At current standings, northeast Fresno voters will decide between Roger Bonakdar and Nick Richardson in November.

The race for Fresno City Council District 6 appears to be headed for a runoff in November.

Meanwhile, Mayor Jerry Dyer will not have to campaign throughout the year as he was soundly re-elected on Tuesday.

District 6: Attorney Roger Bonakdar led the race to represent northeast Fresno as of the latest count Tuesday night.

  • Bonakdar is in first place at 35.82 percent.
  • If current results stand, Nick Richardson would head to the runoff as well with 27.97 percent of the vote.
  • But Molly Fagundes-Johnston is within five percent of Richardson, needing to make up close to 500 votes to place in second.
  • Raj Sodhi-Layne is in last place at 12.98 percent.

District 2: City Councilman Mike Karbassi will serve a second term at City Hall as he took home 73.81 percent of the vote by Tuesday night.

  • His opponent, Matthew Gillian, had 25.85 percent.

Mayoral race: Dyer is also headed for a second term at City Hall as he has 81.36 percent of the vote at the latest count.

  • James Barr is in second at 12.66 percent, followed by Samntha Dussell at 5.55 percent.
