Arambula has a preference for Assembly successor. Here’s who he’s backing in 2026.

The termed-out Democratic lawmaker is picking sides early in the 2026 battle to replace him.

Asm. Joaquin Arambula (D–Fresno) appears to have picked who he wants to succeed him in the Legislature.

Political finance documents show that Arambula’s campaign committee donated to Sandra Celedon this week.

Driving the news: Celedon, a social justice advocate who is the CEO of Fresno Building Healthy Communities, filed paperwork for a campaign finance committee with the state.

  • Arambula previously announced that he will forgo a final two-year term in office to run for the Fresno City Council, which leaves the seat open for Celedon.
  • Fresno City Councilmember Annalisa Perea has also filed paperwork for a campaign committee, which is named “Perea for Assembly 2026.”

The big picture: Campaign finance documents filed on Wednesday show three contributions made to Celedon’s account.

  • One was from the Dr. Joaquin Arambula for Assembly 2024 account in the amount of $5,900 – the maximum contribution allowed under state law.
  • Celedon’s committee also received two other $5,900 donations from local attorneys Amelia Arambula and Amparo Cid.
