Playland at risk of closing as vendor leaves

The vendor operating Fresno’s Playland will stop working with the amusement park at the end of the month.

Fresno’s Playland is at risk of closing next month without a new vendor stepping in to operate the storied amusement park.

Driving the news: Vendor Helm and Sons took over Playland in 2023, reopening the amusement park after the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • But Playland has faced financial challenges and has been on the verge of closing ever since it reopened.

The big picture: KMPH reported that Davey Helm, representing Helm and Sons, told the Storyland-Playland  board of directors that the vendor will not renew the contract for Playland.

  • That means Playland will close down at the start of next month if a new vendor does not take over operations.
