Comcast is expanding its rural broadband project in Tulare County.
The telecommunications company broke ground on its expansion project in Pixley on Wednesday.
The big picture: Comcast’s new Tulare County project will bring Xfinity broadband to around 6,200 previously unserved locations in parts of Alpaugh, Dinuba, Earlimart, Kingsburg, Pixley, Sultana, Traver, Tulare, Visalia and Tipton.
- Comcast expects the project to be complete by early 2026.
- The company has made over $4 billion in technology and infrastructure investments across California in the last three years.
- Over $26 million from the Federal Funding Account grant and the California Public Utilities Commission made the expansion possible.
Go deeper: Along with the expansion, Comcast also announced a $25,000 contribution to the Tulare County Office of Education Foundation.
- That gift will help provide digital access to students and families.
What they’re saying: “What we value so much about Comcast is they take a big picture of our community,” said Fernie Marroquin, Assistant Superintendent of the Tulare County Office of Education. “So yes, deploying this kind of advanced networking technology is huge. But Comcast goes beyond that to ask ‘how else can we help?’ And with a financial contribution of this size and scale, that much needed help can go a long way toward supporting a variety of needs – and our community greatly appreciates it.”
- Tulare County Supervisor Pete Vander Poel said the county could not be happier that it is one of the first areas to receive a grant from the Federal Funding Account for broadband.
- “This sizable investment in our technology infrastructure will drive economic development, support existing businesses, while attracting new ones, and enable enhanced educational opportunities and career growth for our residents. We are grateful to Comcast and the CPUC and look forward to working together to bring this important project to fruition.”
