Raiders fire offensive coordinator, change up offensive staff

Las Vegas has fallen to 2-7 on the season with a sputtering offense.

The Las Vegas Raiders have fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy after losing five games in a row.

The Raiders also let go of offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello.

Driving the news: Head coach Antonio Pierce’s decision-making has come under scrutiny following the team’s recent struggles. Pierce, who went 5-4 as interim coach last season, will face increased focus on getting the team back on track.

  • Getsy, who had been hired less than a year ago by the Raiders, faced criticism for the team’s offensive performance, ranking near the bottom of the NFL in points and yards per game under his leadership.
  • Getsy’s play-calling was criticized for being conservative and lacking in-game adjustments as losses began to pile up for the Raiders.

The big picture: This marks the fourth time in the past five seasons that the Raiders have made midseason changes to their coaching staff, with previous changes involving the firing of defensive coordinator Paul Guenther, head coach Jon Gruden, and head coach Josh McDaniels.
