After back-to-back debate no-shows, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer is taking the gloves off against talk radio host Larry Elder.
During a Tuesday night debate sponsored by the Sacramento Press Club, Faulconer introduced some comments made by Elder in a 2000 column for Capitalism magazine, wherein he described women as knowing less than men on issues such as political, economic, and current affairs.
Elder added to his biting criticism of women, “[f]or the less one knows, the easier the manipulation.”
Separately, Elder in his book Showdown gave credence to a venture capital firm’s ability to discriminate against women based on their status as pregnant, making the argument that women who have children may not be “committed” to do the work.
The pregnancy discrimination floated in Elder’s book would serve as a firm violation of the federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act.
In disgust, Faulconer struck back: “It’s bullshit.”
Following the debate, in an interview with Fox LA’s Elex Michaelson, Faulconer doubled-down.
“Now we know why he’s not coming to these debates,” the former San Diego chief said. “He doesn’t want to defend this. It’s indefensible.”
Alexandra Datig, Elder’s one-time fiancée and long-time radio producer, joined the pile-on post-debate.
“[Kevin Faulconer has no idea how right he is… yet!” Datig tweeted out on Tuesday night. “Elder should release me out of my NDA! The people have a right to know the truth! There are not secrets in politics!”
Datig is currently subject to a non-disclosure agreement regarding their past relationship.
