O.J. Simpson, the football superstar acquitted of murder in the “trial of the century,” has passed away at the age of 76 in Las Vegas.
His children announced the news in a statement on Simpson’s X account.
Driving the news: Simpson achieved fame and success through football and acting, but his legacy was forever altered by the 1994 killings of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles.
- While he was acquitted in the criminal trial, a civil jury later found him liable for the wrongful death and battery of Goldman and for battery of Brown.
- His well-documented arrest following a televised slow-speed chase marked a significant downfall for the sports figure who had previously crossed racial boundaries with his achievements as a football star and public persona.
- Simpson revealed in May 2023 that he was diagnosed with cancer, with news coming out in February that he was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.
