Harun Abdul-Malik Yener, a 30-year-old man from Coral Springs, Florida, was arrested and charged with attempting to bomb the New York Stock Exchange.
The FBI began investigating Yener in February after receiving a tip that he was storing bombmaking schematics in a storage unit.
The big picture: During the investigation, the FBI found bombmaking sketches, watches with timers, electronic circuit boards, and other electronics that could be used to build explosive devices.
- Yener had been searching online for bombmaking-related information since 2017.
- Yener reportedly told undercover FBI agents that he planned to detonate the bomb the week before Thanksgiving and that the New York Stock Exchange in Lower Manhattan would be a popular target.
- He had his first court appearance and will be detained while awaiting trial.
