Stockton Ports even up Opening Week series with Nuts

The Stockton Ports (1-1) are winless no-more, powering to an 8-3 victory over their Highway 99 rivals, the Modesto Nuts (1-1), to put their Opening Week series level.

The Ports delivered a steady stream of runs throughout nine frames, but jumped out to a 6-0 lead midway through the fifth inning before a Robert Perez line-drive double ended the shut-out in the bottom of the fifth.

Reliever Vince Colletti picked up the win after seeing and striking out a single batter in the bottom of the third inning. Jose Mora earned the save for the Oakland A’s affiliate.

The Ports and Nuts continue their series Thursday night at John Thurman Field at 7:05 p.m.
