Dan Hurley to stay with UConn, rejects offer from Lakers

Hurley turned down a lucrative deal to take over one of the NBA’s most storied franchises.

The search for the next Los Angeles Lakers head coach continues.

UConn head coach Dan Hurley, who has led the Huskies to back-to-back National Championships, has reportedly turned down an offer to coach the Lakers.

The big picture: According to ESPN, Hurley has decided not to take a six year, $70 million offer from the Lakers.

  • Hurley’s decision to turn down an offer from the Lakers is a rare occurrence in college basketball.

Driving the news: Over the last two seasons, UConn has achieved a 68-11 record, winning two consecutive national titles.

  • Their domination in the NCAA tournament includes an undefeated record of 12-0, with an average winning margin of 21.7 points per game.

What we’re watching: Multiple reports suggest that the Lakers, who are coming off a seventh-place finish in the Western Conference, could turn to former NBA player JJ Redick.
