Haener hitting the road: Bulldogs QB enters transfer portal

One day after Fresno State head coach Kalen DeBoer departed for Seattle, Haener filed to enter the NCAA transfer portal and leave the program.

Jake Haener, once a University of Washington cast-off looking for a shot to make noise in college football with the Fresno State Bulldogs, may wind up back where he started.

One day after Fresno State head coach Kalen DeBoer departed for Seattle, Haener filed to enter the NCAA transfer portal and leave the program.

It could mean a reunion for the Haener, the Huskies, and DeBoer all in one, too.

Haener joined the Bulldogs’ roster in 2020 as a fourth-year junior transferring from Washington after losing a quarterback battle with Jacob Eason. Eason would eventually be selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Danville native closed out Fresno State’s nine-win 2021 season ranked eighth in the nation for passing yards with 3,810 yards.

He completed 67.5 percent of his passes on the year.
