Sanger Unified trustee Brandon Vang has won election to the Fresno City Council outright.
The Fresno County Registrar of Voters certified the election, showing that Vang will not need to go to a runoff against Fresno Unified trustee Elizabeth Jonasson Rosas.
State of the race: Needing a majority vote to win, Vang took home 50.19% of the vote, slightly over the threshold to win outright.
- Jonasson came in second with 35.01%, followed by Jose Barraza at 12.27%, Paul Condon at 2.29% and write-in candidate Nickolas Wildstar at 0.24%.
- Vang took an early lead in the race on election night and held steady throughout the last two and a half weeks of vote counting.
- Vang will fill the District 5 seat vacated by Luis Chavez, who left the city council after his election to the Fresno County Board of Supervisors.
What we’re watching: The next Fresno City Council meeting is scheduled for next Thursday.
- With the results certified, the city council can vote to accept the election and officially swear in Vang to represent District 5.
