Stan Ellis sworn in to Assembly

The Bakersfield businessman was in Sacramento on Monday to start his new job.

New Asm. Stan Ellis (R–Bakersfield) was sworn into office on Monday at the State Capitol.

Ellis fills the vacant seat left by Rep. Vince Fong (R–Bakersfield), who left the Legislature to run for former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s seat in Congress.

The big picture: Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (R–Yuba City) issued the oath of office to Ellis on Monday afternoon.

What he’s saying: “I am deeply honored to serve the people of the 32nd District,” Ellis said. “In the Assembly, I will champion policies that bolster our local economy, ensure our energy future is both sustainable and reliable, and stand up for the principles that matter most to our community. It’s time to get to work, addressing the challenges we face and delivering real results that make a difference in the lives of families, farmers, and business owners across the Central Valley.”

Driving the news: Ellis won the special election for Assembly District 32 last week by a wide margin, taking 64.7% of the vote.

  • Chris Cruz-Boone was next with 28.6%, with two other candidates coming in at under 5%.
