Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni has endorsed Rep. John Duarte (R–Modesto) for Congress.
Duarte is running for reelection against former Asm. Adam Gray (D–Merced), who he beat by less than 600 votes two years ago.
What they’re saying: Zanoni said in a statement that he is supporting Duarte because of Duarte’s success in reaching across the aisle to keep Valley families safe.
- “John Duarte is someone we can count on to keep Valley families safe,” Zanoni said. “He is working with local leaders from both parties to clean up our streets and get our hardworking law enforcement the support they need. I fully endorse Duarte’s campaign and look forward to continuing to work with him.”
- In response, Duarte said, “Sheriff Zanoni stands for law and order, supports victims, and works tirelessly for a safer Fresno County. I am honored to earn the trust of a leader like him.”
What we’re watching: Duarte and Gray will face off once again on Nov. 5 in the general election.
- Duarte came in first place in the March primary by a 54.9 percent to 45.1 percent margin, leading by around 8,500 votes.
