Former Central Valley Congressman Jeff Denham could join the Trump administration as the Transportation Secretary.
Politico reported Monday that Denham fielded a call from the transition team to lead the Department of Transportation.
The big picture: According to the report, Denham is in the mix with two other people: former COngressman Sean Duffy and former Uber executive Emil Michael.
- Duffy was reportedly interviewed by President-elect Donald Trump over the weekend, and Denham was asked by a member of the transition team asking him to consider the role.
- Politico also reported that Elon Musk “made positive comments about” Denham.
Driving the news: Heading up the Transportation Department would be familiar territory for Denham, given that he served on the Transportation Committee during his tenure in the House of Representatives.
- He also fought against sending federal money to California for High-Speed Rail.
Flashback: Denham served in the California State Senate from 2002 to 2010 before running for Congress in 2010 to succeed George Radanovich.
- Denham served in Congress from 2011 to 2019 and was defeated by Rep. Josh Harder (D–Tracy) in the 2018 election.
- After leaving Congress, Denham joined KL Gates as a lobbyist.
