Two basketball players and the head coach at Mariposa County High School have been arrested for their involvement in a sex scandal.
The two students were arrested on multiple sex crimes, while the coach, Pierce Chaney, was arrested for felony child abuse and failure to report as a mandated reporter.
The big picture: The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrests last Friday, declining to name the two students since they are minors.
- While Chaney was arrested, he is not facing any sex charges as the two students are.
- Investigators did not reveal any specifics about the alleged sex crimes.
What they’re saying: “We continue working closely with the Mariposa County School District to ensure student safety and protect the victims and witnesses involved,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “This is still an active case as we continue to investigate. Due to this case involving juveniles, no additional details can be released.”
