M30 King of Fresno sent to prison

The so-called M30 Kings is one of 20 people charged in federal court in connection to a major drug trafficking ring.

The so-called M30 King of Fresno has been sentenced to over two decades in prison. 

The U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday that Horacio Torrecillas Urias Jr., 24, was sentenced to 23 years and one month in prison for distribution of fentanyl and conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl. 

Driving the news: Law enforcement started investigating after a number of fentanyl-pill overdoses took place in Fresno, which were caused by counterfeit oxycodone M30 tablets which contained fentanyl. 

  • Those tablets are referred to as M30s on the street. 
  • The investigation was called “Operation Killer High” and uncovered a large drug-trafficking ring led by Urias, who called himself the M30 King of Fresno. 

Zoom in: Urias was directly obtaining tens of thousands of counterfeit M30 fentanyl pills and large quantities of fentanyl powder, cocaine and methamphetamine from sources in Mexico. 

  • Law enforcement recovered over 55,000 fentanyl pills, six pounds of fentanyl powder, 10 pounds of methamphetamine, one pound of cocaine, 25 firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. 
  • Twenty defendants have been charged in three federal cases.
