The Fresno County Board of Supervisors named David Luchini as the Director of the Department of Public Health on Tuesday, completing a pandemic-era hand-off at the department.
Luchini had been serving as the interim director since May, when former director David Pomaville retired after leading the department for eight years.
Tuesday’s appointment sees Luchini raised to the top leadership position after working in the department for 27 years.
Luchini joined the department in 1993 as a field Public Health Nurse and provided case management services for high-risk pregnancies, high-risk infant cases, communicable disease investigations and senior service.
In 1997, Luchini was promoted to Supervising Public Health Nurse for the Immunization Program and Clinic.
He served in that role until 2011, when he left the county for a brief stint with Kaiser Permanente in Fresno as the Director of Adult Services.
One year later, Luchini returned to the department and has served as the Assistant Director until he took the reins from Pomaville earlier this year.
