Fresno woman convicted of fentanyl-related homicide

Cassidy Marie Gonzalez could spend the rest of her life behind bars with the conviction.

A jury has handed down the first ever murder conviction in a fentanyl-related homicide trial in Fresno County history on Wednesday.

The big picture: A Fresno County jury convicted Cassidy Marie Gonzalez, 24, of second-degree murder in the fentanyl overdose death of Jade Dreith, 41.

  • Gonzalez remains in jail after the verdict and will be sentenced on April 24.
  • She faces 15 years to life in prison.

What they’re saying: “Today, our office has delivered justice for Jade’s family by securing the first-ever jury conviction in a fentanyl murder trial in Fresno County,” said District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp. “This verdict is a testament to our steadfast commitment to protecting our communities, seeking justice for victims, and holding accountable those who distribute illicit fentanyl that leads to death.”
