Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama is not wasting any time looking for another job while on leave.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Balderrama is one of dozens of candidates who has applied to be the next chief of police in Austin, Texas.
Flashback: The City of Fresno announced on June 6 that Balderrama was under investigation for an inappropriate off-duty relationship.
- The Sun reported last week that Balderrama was carrying on an affair for over two years with an officer’s wife.
- Balderrama was placed on paid administrative leave by the city last week as it conducts its investigation.
The big picture: According to the American-Statesman, the chief of police position in Austin opened up last month, and the application process closed on June 10.
- That means Balderrama applied for the job before he had been placed on leave.
- Austin has been without a permanent police chief for the last year.
- There have reportedly been 32 total candidates who have applied for the job.
- Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said in an online post that the city manager will narrow down the list of applicants to the top candidates who will then be interviewed.
