Kern Co. Democrats urge Wasco Mayor Garcia to resign after allegations

Wasco Mayor Alex Garcia has been accused of trying to meet with a minor for sex.

Kern County Democrats are calling on Wasco Mayor Alex Garcia to step down after facing allegations that he tried to meet up with a minor for sex.

The Kern County Democratic Party released a statement on Tuesday officially calling for Garcia’s resignation.

Driving the news: A video posted to X last week and a recent post on Facebook alleged that Garcia arranged to meet with a 15-year-old boy after he believed he had been talking to two minors online.

  • The Facebook post alleged that Garcia came to “do horrific things to the kid.”
  • The Bakersfield Police Department confirmed that it is investigating the incident.

What they’re saying: “We have been made aware of the recent allegations made against Wasco Mayor Alex Garcia,” the Kern County Democratic Party said in a statement. “The Kern County Democratic Party unequivocally condemns any acts of violence, sexual assault and harassment in any form, especially when involving an individual who cannot give consent, such as a minor.”

  • The statement continued, “As such, the Kern County Democratic Party calls on Mar. Garcia to immediately resign from his position on the Wasco City Council, so that the city can focus on the work of serving its citizens without distraction.”
  • The Democratic Party said it takes the allegations very seriously and hopes that the appropriate agencies investigate the matter to the fullest extent of the law.
