In purple tier, Kern High School District weighs resuming in-person instruction

The Kern High School District is exploring the possibility of bringing students back to campus.

The Board of Trustees will evaluate the option to bring students to school in small cohorts at the board meeting Monday evening.

If approved, in-person instruction will ramp back up on Oct. 26, allowing students to return to the campus one or two days every week while participating in online distance learning on the other days.

The board will also vote on resuming sports practices and other co-curricular activities on campus.

Kern County is currently in the state’s “purple” tier – the most restrictive category – of the state’s color-coded reopening blueprint.

Once the county eventually moves into the red tier, all schools will be allowed to reopen fully with health-safety guidelines in place.
