Violent accusations against Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver and Fresno native Xavier Worthy have been made public in a new court filing.
Worthy has continued to maintain his innocence after charges were not filed against him.
The backstory: Worthy was arrested in Texas earlier this month for alleged domestic violence, but he was released from jail after prosecutors decided against filing charges against him.
Driving the news: Tia Jones, Worthy’s fiance, has accused the football player of violently putting his hands on her at least five times over the last year.
- Jones claims the first incident occurred last October when he allegedly pushed her to the ground with both of his hands.
- A couple months later, Worthy allegedly picked Jones up, slammed her on a bed and choked her during an argument, going on to throw her on the ground.
- Jones detailed two other allegations over following months with similar violent details and claims the most violent incident took place on March 7, the day of Worthy’s arrest.
- She claimed that Worthy grabbed her by the throat, lifted her off the ground and slammed her on the floor.
- The incident allegedly continued hours later, Jones claimed, when Worthy choked her again.
- “I felt like I was going to die,” Jones wrote in a sworn affidavit.
- Jones had a temporary protective order granted against Worthy last week in civil court.
The other side: Following the allegations, Worthy’s attorneys released a statement denying all of the claims made by Jones, calling the civil protective order unnecessary and a media ploy.
- Worthy’s attorneys said he has been trying to get Jones to leave his house in Texas for weeks, adding that they have sworn affidavits, photographs and videos to refute every allegation.
- “There have been no prior police calls during their relationship,” Worthy’s attorneys said. “It is our understanding Ms. Jones did not respond to the Detectives for several days after Mr. Worthy’s arrest, despite their efforts to contact her. It is Ms. Jones who has been the aggressor against Mr. Worthy in their relationship. Mr. Worthy had hoped that he would have a long-term relationship with Ms. Jones when he proposed months ago. It is a sad commentary that after she has been asked to leave his residence on multiple occasions, that she refused to leave and now continues to make false allegations and defamatory statements.”
- Worthy’s attorneys also said that Jones and some associates of hers stole valuable items from his home when he was in jail and eventually returned some of them.
- “Mr. Worthy did not want to file charges against Ms. Jones last weekend but remains concerned about the theft from his home along with the false allegations continuing to be made,” Worthy’s attorneys said. “Mr. Worthy is hiring a civil attorney to address these defamatory statements and we will continue our cooperation with any inquiries from law enforcement as we have from Day 1.”
