Local political consultant Nav Gurm has launched a campaign for Fresno City Council District 7.
Gurm hopes to succeed Councilmember Nelson Esparza, who is running for State Senate.
Driving the news: Gurm owns Five River Strategies, a consulting firm that focuses on local public affairs.
- He also worked for Esparza at Fresno City Hall and attended UC Davis for his law degree.
- Gurm currently works for a statewide nonprofit to help underserved communities and support youth development.
What he’s saying: “I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for Fresno City Council District 7,” Gurm said. “I’ve witnessed the challenges our community faces and the incredible potential we hold. I am committed to putting working families first and addressing the critical issues that impact our neighborhoods.”
- Gurm identified affordable living, public safety, reliable infrastructure and housing as the top issues he wants to tackle on the council.
- “I believe in Fresno’s potential and am ready to work tirelessly to make our city a place where its neighborhoods and its people can thrive,” Gurm said.
Zoom in: Gurm has already raised $50,000 for his campaign ahead of the June 2026 election.
- He boasts the support of many prominent Democratic city leaders, including his former boss Esparza and Councilmembers Annalisa Perea, Tyler Maxwell and Miguel Arias.
- Gurm is also endorsed by Fresno County Supervisor Luis Chavez, former Fresno County Supervisor Henry R. Perea and Fresno County Assessor Paul Dictos.
