CHP operation with Bakersfield PD boosts arrests

Law enforcement has cracked down on criminals in Bakersfield.

California’s boosted police presence in Bakersfield has resulted in more arrests in the last few months. 

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced this week that the California Highway Patrol’s joint operations with Bakersfield law enforcement is addressing crime in the region. 

By the numbers: There have been 470 arrests for illegal activity, with a 56 percent increase in arrests from April to May. 

  • Law enforcement has also recovered 244 stolen vehicles and seized 10 firearms that were linked to crimes. 
  • Bakersfield’s vehicle recovery increase increased by 24 percent in May. 

What they’re saying: “Week after week we continue to see positive results from our partnership with local law enforcement in the Bakersfield area,” Newsom said in a statement. “Our ultimate goal is to take down criminal activity and make Bakersfield’s streets safer.” 

  • CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee added, “The success of the ongoing operation in Bakersfield is a testament to the power of collaboration between our two law enforcement agencies and the support of our community partners. Working together, we can make significant strides in improving public safety and reducing crime in the community.”
