Fong to officially join Congress on Monday

Speaker Mike Johnson will welcome Fong to the U.S. Capitol with a swearing in ceremony.

Former Asm. Vince Fong (R–Bakersfield) will be sworn into Congress on Monday.

That will be the start of Fong’s term in office as he serves out the remainder of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s term.

The big picture: Fong’s swearing in ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. at the U.S. Capitol.

  • Speaker Mike Johnson will officiate the ceremony.
  • House Republicans will have 218 members once Fong is sworn in, giving them a five-member majority over Democrats.

What we’re watching: Fong will face Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux in the November election to see if he will remain the representative for Congressional District 20.
