Costa announces $45mil for Head Start in Fresno, Tulare Counties

Children in Fresno and Tulare Counties will be able to benefit from the funding.

Rep. Jim Costa announced that he has secured $45 million in federal funding to support Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Fresno and Tulare Counties.

The big picture: Head Start helps children from underserved families to promote school readiness up to the age of five by enhancing cognitive, social and emotional development. 

  • Fresno County will receive $23.2 million through the Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission. 
  • Tulare County will receive $22.8 million through the Tulare County Office of Education. 

What they’re saying: “These investments level the playing field and empower children to thrive in school,” Costa said in a statement. “Investing in Head Start is an investment in our children’s future – because when our children succeed, America succeeds.”
