Xavier Worthy headlined all local prospects in the NFL Draft, being selected in the first round by the Kansas City Chiefs, but another local wide receiver heard his name called over the weekend.
San Joaquin Memorial alum Jalen McMillan was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round at pick 92.
The big picture: McMillan, a Fresno native, joins a Tampa Bay team that should give him the opportunity to be the third wide receiver on the depth chart, behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
- He joins the Buccaneers after starting at the University of Washington for four years.
- Another former high school star from the Fresno area who will have a shot in the NFL is Kendall Milton, a Buchanan High School alum who played running back at the University of Georgia.
- Milton did not get picked in the draft, but he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent.
Fresno State free agents: Fresno State did not have any players selected in the NFL Draft this year, but four Bulldogs signed with teams as undrafted free agents.
- Cornerbacks Carlton Johnson and Morrice Norris Jr. signed with the Seattle Seahawks and the Detroit Lions, respectively.
- Linebacker Levelle Bailey, a former team captain for the ‘Dogs, is headed to the Denver Broncos.
- Wide Receiver Jaelen Gill will team up with new head coach Jim Harbaugh on the Los Angeles Chargers.
- Long Snapper Nick D’Ambra did not get a contract, but he was invited by the Broncos to participate in their minicamp.
Ex Bulldog finds a home: Former Fresno State safety and team captain Evan Williams was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round at pick 111.
- Williams starred at Fresno State for four years, playing 39 games for the Bulldogs before transferring to Oregon for the 2023 season, where he led the Ducks with 82 tackles and ranked second in the nation among defensive backs with 4.5 sacks.
