Fresno Unified provides update to superintendent search

Board President Susan Wittrup noted the district has brought in an outside firm to help find the next superintendent.

Fresno Unified Board President Susan Wittrup provided an update to the district’s search for its next superintendent on Thursday.

Wittrup said the Board of Trustees has formed a Superintendent Search subcommittee, consisting of her and Trustees Valerie Davis and Veva Islas.

The backstory: Superintendent Bob Nelson is leaving the district for a tenure-track faculty position at Fresno State.

  • Nelson will teach in the Educational Leadership Division at the Kremen School of Education and Human Development.

The big picture: Wittrup said the district concluded eight learning sessions across the district to hear directly from the community about the superintendent search.

  • She encourages families who were unable to attend the meetings to provide feedback on the district’s online survey
  • The district has also brought in Leadership Associates, an executive search and leadership development firm, to assist in the process of recruiting a new superintendent.

What they’re saying: “We are very interested in hearing directly from you, our constituents, about your perspectives on the leadership of our district and the trajectory of our schools,” Wittrup said in a statement.
