McCarthy financing Super PAC behind attacks on Boudreaux, Wood vs. Fong

The Central Valley Values PAC has been putting out advertisements to support Vince Fong and opposing Mike Boudreaux.

A Super Political Action Committee that supports Asm. Vince Fong (R–Bakersfield) for Congress and spearheading attacks on his foes has recieved hefty financial support from Fong’s former boss and mentor, Speaker Emeritus Kevin McCarthy, new FEC filings revealed.

Public disclosure of McCarthy’s support comes amid Fong’s securing an endorsement from former President Donald Trump.

Driving the news: According to the California Target Book, the Majority Committee PAC $250,000 donated $250,000 to the Central Valley Values PAC, which is backing Fong in the 20th District race.

  • The Central Valley Values PAC also received a $250,000 donation from Conservatives for American Excellence Inc.
  • Conservatives for American Excellence received a $250,000 itself from Barbara Grimm-Marshall, a Bakersfield farmer and philanthropist.

Go deeper: The Central Valley Values PAC has spent more than $419,000 on mailers and digital advertisements in support of Fong and in opposition to Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

  • Wednesday, a new filing came out noting that the McCarthy-backed Super PAC was sending mailers to Democrats attacking Marissa Wood (D–Bakersfield), the former Speaker’s 2022 foe, in hopes of consolidating left-leaning support around her and vaulting her into the top two for a run-off in November.
  • The move drew comparisons to moves undertaken by Rep. Adam Schiff (D–Burbank) attacking Republican Steve Garvey to box out Rep. Katie Porter (D–Irvine) from a November showdown.
