The latest fundraising totals have been released for local and state candidates ahead of the November election.

The latest fundraising totals have been released for local and state candidates ahead of the November election.

Here’s a look at where the candidates stand in some of the local elections that figure to be close:

27th Assembly District

Former Merced County Sheriff Mark Pazin and Fresno City Councilwoman Esmeralda Soria were the top two candidates to advance in the June primary.

Pazin, a Republican, placed second with 35 percent of the vote, while Soria, a Democrat, came in first with 40.1 percent.

Soria’s lead in the primary has carried over in the latest fundraising period from May 22 to June 30.

Soria pulled in $131,827.66 in the period, bringing her year-to-date total up to $658,586.07 as she fended off fellow Fresno City Councilman Mike Karbassi in the primary.

She spent $319,998 in the period and has used up $620,870.49 overall, leaving her with $48,367.99 on hand.

Pazin’s fundraising totals have not come close to what Soria has brought in so far.

In the same period, Pazin raised $62,620, bringing his year-to-date total to $216,321.82.

He spent $41,568.56 in the period and $126,479.05 this year so far, leaving him with $94,546.29 in his war chest.

16th Senate District

District 16, covering much of the southern Central Valley, saw Porterville Republican David Shepard with a 14 point lead over incumbent Melissa Hurtado (D–Sanger).

However, Hurtado has the full strength of her position in office behind her, as proven by her fundraising numbers.

For the last reporting period – May 22 through June 30 – Hurtado raised $87,206, bringing her year-to-date total to $451,763.

After spending $158,133.36 last period, Hurtado has $373,309.04 remaining in the bank.

Shepard’s fundraising in the same period brought in $23,425, with his year-to-date totals rising to $187,463.59.

He spent $21,720 last period, leaving him with $21,860 on hand.

Fresno Unified School Board, District 7

Terry Slatic’s defense to stay on the board is off to a rocky start financially.

For the period of Jan. 1 through June 30, Slatic only reported one donation of $3,000.

His campaign took on a loan from the candidate himself, for $2,000, and he has also incurred $52.50 in debt to his treasurer, Bains CPA Inc.

Slatic racked up $1,139.60 in expenditures for the first half of 2022 and reported $4,487 on-hand.

Challenger Susan Wittrup, while reporting minimal financial hauls for the half-year, is in drastically better financial shape than Slatic.

Amid spending $28,609.41 for the period, Wittrup raised $8,050 over the first half of the year. She closed out June 30 with an eye-popping $90,037.54 in the bank.

Madera County Board of Supervisors, District 1

Fresno police officer Jordan Wamhoff and Golden Valley Trustee Andy Wheeler ran neck-and-neck in the June primary, at 34.44 percent and 34.11 percent, respectively.

Wamhoff only brought in $3,000 in the latest reporting period, which ran from May 22 through June 30.

Overall he has earned $56,836 to date and spent $43,721.74, leaving him with $13,114.26 on hand.

Wheeler out-raised Wamhoff in the last period with $7,800 in donations and a $1,100 loan, bringing his year-to-date total to $53,097.

But his nearly $21,000 in expenses last period brought his total expenditures to $54,660.86.

That leaves him with only $1,563.44 in his war chest.
