Kings Canyon National Park to reopen Monday amid rollback of wildfires

As containment of the KNP Complex fires continues to grow, one of the two neighboring national parks will reopen.

As containment of the KNP Complex fires continues to grow, U.S. National Park Service officials announced over the weekend that Kings Canyon National Park will reopen, along with key tourist stops.

Cedar Grove and a number of areas of Grant Grove are set to reopen to public day access on Monday.

Officials said that the park will not have running water available until a later, to-be-announced date and has advised visitors to bring sufficient drinking water supplies.

Restrooms, however, will be open.

Sequoia National Park remains closed as firefighting officials with the U.S. Forest Service still tackle the blaze, which is 55 percent contained.

What’s reopening in Kings Canyon?

  • Big Stump Entrance Station on Highway 180
  • The majority of Grant Grove, including the General Grant Tree
  • Kings Canyon Visitor Center Information Desk (exhibits, shop, and theater remain closed)
  • Cedar Grove
  • Kings Canyon Wilderness except for Redwood Canyon
  • Areas east of the Great Western Divide in the Sequoia National Park Wilderness
  • South Fork in the Sequoia National Park wilderness
