During a Wednesday press conference, gubernatorial contender Larry Elder and his latest endorser, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R–Richvale) strenuously pushed back on an attack levied by former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer during a Tuesday night debate.
Faulconer cited comments by Elder in a 2000 Op-Ed which cited studies that women were less familiar than men on topics such as political, economic, and current affairs.
He was also asked about a 2002 book comment wherein he defended a venture capital firm’s ability to discriminate against pregnant women on the basis of their commitment to the job.
Elder, LaMalfa, and ABC7 reporter Josh Haskell devolved into a back-and-forth over the accuracy of the line along with Elder’s reasoning for not attending debates exclusively featuring his GOP counterparts.
