California Dairies Inc. announces new CEO

Rob Vandenheuvel has been promoted to CEO after working as the organization’s COO.

California’s largest member-owned milk marketing and processing cooperative has found its next leader.

California Dairies Inc., based in Visalia, named Rob Vandenheuvel as the next President and CEO.

The big picture: Vandenheuval is succeeding Brad Anderson in the role, who is retiring after six years as CEO.

Anderson’s tenure: California Dairies praised Anderson for his “visionary leadership” throughout a period of significant growth and transformation.

  • Anderson led the construction of the cooperative’s state-of-the-art processing facility in Bakersfield and expanded the organization’s manufacturing into extended shelf life and aseptic products.
  • The cooperative also credited Anderson with diversifying its portfolio with the introduction of lactoferrin and for establishing the cooperative as an environmental leader through the “Golden State Advantage” initiative.

Vandenheuvel’s career: Vandenheuvel’s hiring marks a promotion for California Dairies.

  • Vandenheuvel has worked for the company for eight years and previously was the Chief Operating Officer.
  • He also has prior experience as the general manager at Milk Producers Council.

What we’re watching: While Vandenheuvel officially started as CEO on Nov. 1, Anderson will stay on to support the transition in an advisory role through the end of the year.

What they’re saying: “It’s impossible to overstate Brad’s impact on CDI,” said Cory Vanderham, Chairman of CDI’s Board of Directors. “For years, his visionary leadership, strategic acumen, and steady hand have guided CDI, building a culture of innovation and integrity. He didn’t just lead CDI, he built a legacy of excellence that will benefit our employees, customers, and member-owners for years to come. We are immensely grateful for his dedication and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”

  • Anderson said leading California Dairies has been the privilege of his career.
  • “I am incredibly proud of what our team has accomplished together for our member-owners,” Anderson said. “We’ve built a strong foundation for the future, and I am confident that Rob is the right leader to continue that momentum. His deep industry knowledge and commitment to CDI’s values make him the perfect choice to lead the organization forward.”
  • Vanderham called Vandenheuvel the perfect leader to guide California Dairies into its next chapter.
  • “His deep understanding of our business, combined with his strategic vision and proven ability to execute, make him the clear choice,” Vanderham said. “The transition period since July has been exceptionally smooth, and the board has full confidence that Rob will continue to build on our success and drive sustainable growth.”
