Former Fresno City Attorney Doug Sloan has revealed his next destination.
After confirming last month that he is leaving Santa Monica for a return to the Central Valley, the Fresno County Board of Supervisors unanimously appointed Sloan as County Counsel on Tuesday.
Driving the news: Sloan makes his return to Fresno after three years as the city attorney for Santa Monica.
- He went to Santa Monica following nine years as the Fresno City Attorney, as well as seven years as the Assistant City Attorney for Fresno.
- His departure came amid allegations that then Fresno City Council President Nelson Esparza attempted to extort him.
- The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office ultimately dropped the misdemeanor extortion charge against Esparza, but Esparza agreed to read a statement admitting that he had threatened to vote to terminate Sloan when Sloan was still employed by the city.
- Esparza had been accused of threatening to fire Sloan if he refused to only work for the council’s liberal majority at the time.
- Former Fresno County Counsel Daniel Cederborg resigned in June.
What we’re watching: Sloan’s first day on the job will be Sep. 2.
What he’s saying: “I’m grateful to the Board of Supervisors for this opportunity to return home and work with some great people at the County,” Sloan said in a statement.
