Trump nominates Billy Long to lead IRS

The Republican Congressman has been tapped to be the commissioner of the IRS in Trump’s second term.

President-elect Donald Trump announced that he would nominate former Rep. Billy Long, a Republican from Missouri, to serve as the commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

What he’s saying: Trump praised Long’s extensive experience in running his own businesses in real estate and as an auctioneer.

Driving the news: Long’s relationship with Trump dates back to 2011, and he is described as a well-respected “people person” on both sides of the aisle.

  • If confirmed by the Senate, Long will likely replace the current IRS commissioner, Danny Werfel, who was appointed by President Biden in 2022.
