JetBlue to discontinue several routes

The airline said it is discontinuing the routes because of underperformance.

JetBlue has announced the discontinuation of over half a dozen routes, as well as the reduction of service on several others, affecting major cities and seasonal flights.

The big picture: Citing underperformance as a principal factor, the airline said it is strategically reallocating resources, including its popular Mint service, to serve high-demand markets and create new opportunities for its customers.

  • The routes that will be discontinued in 2025 include those servicing Westchester, New York, Jacksonville, Florida, and various destinations from New York’s JFK airport to Austin, Houston, Miami, and Milwaukee. Additionally, all flights to and from San Jose, California, will be axed.
  • Some of the routes affected by the changes had previously operated as summer seasonal routes, such as those connecting New York and London-Gatwick, and have subsequently been canceled. However, service to London’s Heathrow Airport will continue.

Go deeper: Further adjustments involve the reduction of service on routes between Boston and Phoenix, Boston and Grenada, and New York and Tulum. Another route between New York and Paris will lose its second daily summer seasonal flight, and flights to and from Seattle will operate solely on JetBlue’s all-core planes, offering basic or core seating.

  • However, JetBlue has assured customers that alternate flight options may still be accessible through its website, and refunds will be provided where alternative routes are unavailable.

What we’re watching: The changes are scheduled to take effect around April 30, 2025, with the airline emphasizing its intention to redeploy its capacity, potentially into its European network, to offer more travel options for customers.
