Vivek Ramaswamy has stepped down from President Donald Trump’s Government Efficiency Commission shortly after Trump’s inauguration.
- Ramaswamy had been appointed to lead the commission alongside Elon Musk.
The big picture: Departure from the commission was confirmed on the same day Trump assumed office.
- Instead of serving on the commission, Ramaswamy is eyeing a run for the governor of Ohio.
What they’re saying: Commission spokesperson Anna Kelly said Ramaswamy played a critical role in helping to create DOGE.
- “He intends to run for elected office soon, which requires him to remain outside of DOGE, based on the structure that we announced today,” Kelly said in a statement. “We thank him immensely for his contributions over the last 2 months and expect him to play a vital role in making America great again.”
