American Airlines is testing new technology at three airports to prevent line-cutting during boarding.
The technology is being tested at Albuquerque International Sunport Airport in New Mexico, Tucson International Airport in Arizona and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Crystal City, Virginia.
How it works: Gate agents are alerted with an audible sound if a passenger tries to scan a ticket ahead of their assigned boarding group.
Driving the news: The new technology aims to ensure customers receive the benefits of priority boarding and improve the overall boarding experience by providing greater visibility into the boarding process.
- Gate agents politely inform passengers attempting to scan their tickets early that they need to rejoin the line when their boarding group is called.
- In some cases, such as when traveling with a companion of higher status, the gate agent can override the alert and allow the passenger to board out of order.
