Worthy sues ex-fiancée for assault, extortion

The Fresno native said in the lawsuit that his reputation has been damaged by his ex-fiancée, who allegedly fabricated claims of domestic violence after she cheated on him.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver and Fresno native Xavier Worthy has filed a lawsuit against his ex-fiancée weeks after she accused him of assaulting her.

Worthy claims that his former fiancée, Tia Jones, stole and destroyed over $150,000 worth of cash and property and assaulted him.

The backstory: Worthy was arrested in Texas earlier this month for alleged domestic violence, but prosecutors declined to file charges against him, leading to his release from jail.

  • Jones then filed a civil lawsuit against Worthy, claiming he violently put his hands on her at least five times over the last year. Worthy denied all of the allegations, saying at the time that he had sworn affidavits, photographs and videos to refute every claim.

The big picture: TMZ first reported on Monday that Worthy claims in the lawsuit that Jones abused him and lied about the alleged domestic violence to extort him out of his home, money, cars and other valuables.

  • Per Worthy’s lawsuit, Worthy found out in February that Jones cheated on him, leading her to become violent and extortive against him.
  • Worthy repeatedly asked Jones to leave his house and offered to pay for an apartment to help her.
  • Jones refused to leave and destroyed many of his valuables on March 7, including his desk and a PlayStation 5.
  • Worthy also claims that Jones scratched his face and ripped chunks of his hair out.
  • Further, Worthy claims that Jones stole or destroyed over $150,000 worth of his property and cash from his house while he was in custody on March 7.
  • Worthy is seeking damages of $250,000 to $1 million.
