Michigan head coach faces allegations in sign-stealing scandal

The NCAA may come down hard on new Michigan Head Coach Sherrone Moore.

Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is facing allegations of NCAA violations related to impermissible scouting and sign-stealing.

The allegations come just weeks before Fresno State is slated to travel to The Big House to take on the reigning national champions.

The big picture: Moore has been accused of deleting text messages exchanged with a former low-level recruiting staffer who coordinated the off-campus, advance-scouting operation.

  • The NCAA has recommended a Level 2 violation for Moore, and it is reported that messages between Moore and the staffer were recovered and provided to the NCAA.

What we’re watching: Former head coach Jim Harbaugh may also face Level 1 violations along with the former assistant coach, former staffer and former recruiting staffer.

  • NCAA policy gives schools 90 days to respond to a notice of allegations, and a hearing in front of the NCAA’s committee on infractions is scheduled after the response.
