Giants trade Alex Cobb to Cleveland

San Francisco received a young pitching prospect in return.

The Guardians acquired RHP Alex Cobb from the Giants to bolster their rotation at the trade deadline.

Cleveland sought to add depth to their rotation as they were priced out of the market for top-tier starters.

The big picture: The Guardians sent left-handed pitching prospect Jacob Bresnahan, 19, and a player to be named later to the Giants for Cobb.

  • Cobb has a career record of 77-75 with an ERA of 3.85 in his 12 years in the Major Leagues.
  • Bresnahan was a 13th-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and had a 2.54 ERA for Cleveland’s rookie league team.
