Third baseman Matt Chapman is staying with the San Francisco Giants for the long-term.
Chapman agreed to a $151 million contract over six years on Wednesday.
The big picture: With the deal, Chapman locked himself in with the Giants through 2030.
- He had signed with the Giants before the season on a $54 million, three-year contract with an opt out after 2024 and 2025.
- His total deal with the Giants will now be $169 million over seven years.
State of play: San Francisco’s decision to offer Chapman a long-term deal comes as no surprise given his performance on the field this season.
- Chapman leads the team with 22 home runs, 90 runs and 33 doubles, while posting a slash line of .247/.333/.778.
- He had already played for several years in the Bay Area, earning a nod to the All Star Game in 2019 as a member of the Oakland Athletics.
