49ers, Trent Williams agree to new contract

Williams will return to the 49ers after holding out of training camp and practice.

All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams has ended his contract holdout and reported to the San Francisco 49ers to finalize a new deal, six days before the season opener against the New York Jets.

Williams accumulated over $5 million in fines for missing training camp and preseason games while seeking a new deal.

The big picture: Elite Loyalty Sports, which represents Williams, said on social media on Tuesday that Williams will return to the 49ers.

  • Details of the new deal were not made public as of Tuesday morning.

State of play: San Francisco’s new contract with Williams comes just days after a new contract was signed by star receiver Brandon Aiyuk, ending two major holdouts that dominated the news cycle for the 49ers over the offseason.

  • With Williams and Aiyuk’s contracts settled, the 49ers will have nearly every significant player from last season’s standout offense back for the 2024 season.
  • The 36-year-old Williams was owed $20.05 million this season under his current deal but is set to receive a new contract to replace the final three years on his current deal.
  • Despite being widely considered the top offensive lineman in the game in recent years, Williams’ average annual value has been surpassed by five other offensive linemen since he signed his previous deal.
