Porterville awarded $2.5 million grant for downtown sportsplex

Downtown Porterville will receive a major boost with the $2.5 million in matching funds.

Porterville announced Monday that it has received a $2.5 million grant for the Santa Fe Sportsplex.

The grant was awarded through the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program (OLRP).

The big picture: The Santa Fe Sportsplex will be a new 12-acre multi-sports complex in downtown Porterville.

  • It will include 10 futsal courts with lighting, two multi-sport courts with lighting, a restroom, landscaping, solar lighting, six pickleball courts, a large picnic gazebo and an amphitheater.
  • It was approved by the Porterville City Council in 2022.
  • The project will run along the Santa Fe Byway trail.

Go deeper: Porterville was one of only 10 cities in the nation to receive the ORLP grant.
